Occasionally, We Get Internal Pronunciation Emails

npr:

Hi there

As we approach the Scottish referendum, may I please remind you that the correct pronunciation of Edinburgh is <ED-in-BURR-ah>

+++ if you are Scottish you can say ED-in-BRAH  +++

However it is NOT a an animal’s den “–burrow” or a  large lump of ice    “-berg”

Cheers

Kevin*

WWVB

WWVB, a station run by the National Institute for Standards and Technology. Together with its sister station, WWV, which is about to hit 90 years in service, NIST radio has been an invisible piece of American infrastructure that has advanced industries from entertainment to telecommunications. (WWV’s broadcast includes a wider range of information, including maritime weather warnings and solar storm alerts).

WWV is the call sign of the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) HF (“shortwave”) radio station near Fort Collins, Colorado.[1] WWV continuously transmits official U.S. Government frequency and time signals on 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 MHz.
